Eiko Kawabe Brown

I am...

A filmmaker, a podcaster, and a student/researcher based in Toronto, Canada/Tokorozawa, Japan. As a producer for Alice Il Shin, credits include the short films Haru’s New Year (2018), Signal Fire (2019), CBC Arts: Emma Nishimura (2019), and recently completed documentary films, Landscapes of Home and A Nikkei Canadian Story (2024).

Apart from production work, I work as a Japanese translator and transcriber for film and TV broadcasting, with recent credits including Dark Side of the Ring ( 2021, Vice TV Series), A.rtificial I.mmortality (2021, Feature Documentary) and Age of Samurai: Battle for Japan (2020, Docudrama, Netflix). I am also a passionate volunteer at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre for over the past 20 years. 

I live and work in Tokorozawa, Japan ( for research study from 2024, also in Carlsbad, California, and Toronto ) with my husband and a dog named Sky. I am the mother of two grown-up boys and the partner of an entrepreneur.  I love film festivals, keeping a dream diary, and taking a long walk with Sky on a sunny fall day.
