Landscapes of Home screening at the Embassy of Japan, Ottawa
Landscapes of Home screening at the Embassy of Japan, Ottawa

On August 23rd, 2025, Alice and I had the joy of sharing Landscapes of Home at the Embassy of Japan in Ottawa. About 90 people joined us for the screening, and it was heartwarming to see so many faces— including the Shibata family, the Robinson family and many of their friends—gathered together to experience the film.

After the screening, Dr. Henry Ryusuke Shibata joined a thoughtful Q&A facilitated by Melisa Kamibayashi. His reflections and the audience’s questions sparked an open and meaningful conversation that carried the themes of the film beyond the screen. Although it was set in a official environment and venue, it felt less like a formal session and more like a shared dialogue about memory, history, and the ways we connect to place.

We are deeply grateful to the Embassy of Japan for hosting us, and to everyone who came out to the event. Moments like this remind us why we make films—to create spaces where stories can be seen, heard, and carried forward together.

We thank all the staff at the Embassy for guiding us to carry out this meaningful event. We also thank many from Shibata, Robinson family, and their friends to be with us and supporting our mission to share this film.
